What is ProAir?

ProAir – known by its generic name albuterol, treats many chronic diseases such as bronchitis, asthma, emphysema, COPD, and other chronic lung conditions. If you do not have insurance, this mediation can be expensive, even with a coupon.

ProAir is used to treat wheezing and shortness of breath caused by certain breathing issues, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, and asthma attacks brought on by exercise. Known to a class of drugs called bronchodilators, it works by dilating the breathing passages in the throat and relaxing the muscles in the airway. By treating a serous issue like this, breathing problems will no longer cause a decrease in time lost from friends, family, work  and school.

How Do I Use Proair?

Always make sure to read the leaflet that comes with your medication. This goes for every medication in general, not just ProAir. Make sure to follow the exact directions your doctor gives you and follow the illustrated directions for the proper use of that medication and the cleaning o the mouthpiece. The canister should be shaken before use. To test the medication for the first time, or if you haven’t used the medication in a while, spray the medication once or twice in the air to see if the canister is still operational. Usually, the medication is inhaled every four to six hours, or as needed. For exercise, it is generally recommended that 2 puffs are needed 15 to 30 minutes before exercise to prevent wheezing and breathing issues caused by asthma.

What’s the Weather Like in Orlando in April. In April the weather is hot and sunny, and if you are not used to it you may find it slightly uncomfortable. The average daily temperature for this month can reach highs such as 28°C (83°F), with minimum temperatures of 15°C (53°F).

Average temperatures in April were mostly above normal for the state. The departures from average temperatures in April 2017 were above normal across the entire state, ranging from +1.1˚F in Key West to +5.1˚F in Tampa (Table 1 and Appendix 1). Minimum temperatures in Melbourne on multiple days exceeded the previously established record for the month of April. This was the 2nd warmest April in Tampa, 6th warmest in Pensacola, and 8th warmest in Miami. Multiple warm temperature records were tied or broken across the state (Appendix 2). 

Rainfall totals in April were varied across the state. Rainfall totals in April 2017 were above normal for parts of North and Southeast Florida, including the Florida Keys, and below normal for the rest of the state (Figure 1). A significant portion of the state, particularly parts of Central Florida, received less than a quarter of the normal rainfall for the month. Departures from normal roughly ranged from -2.68” for Orlando to +1.88” in Key West (Table 2 and Appendix 1), though localized parts of the state saw rainfall totals that were as much as 3.00” below normal to 8.00” above normal (Figure 1). Millions of seniors miss out on Medicare prescription drug savings

More than 2 million people on Medicare could be getting their prescription drugs nearly for free, but don’t. That’s because they have not signed up for Extra Help, an important Medicare benefit that subsidizes drug costs for low-income senior citizens.

Extra Help can pay nearly all of the prescription drug costs a senior incurs in a Part D drug plan. It is provided automatically to seniors receiving Medicaid or Supplemental Security Income benefits. In some states, Extra Help also is automatic for people receiving benefits through the Medicare Savings Program, which helps subsidize Medicare Part A (hospitalization) and Part B (outpatient) premiums. But among seniors who do not automatically qualify, less than half are enrolled in Extra Help, according to Jack Hoadley, a research professor at the Health Policy Institute of Georgetown University who tracks the program.

“The government reaches out with information on this from time to time,” Hoadley says. “What’s harder is to figure out how to reach out specifically to people who are eligible.” The RX Solution 

With Medicare’s annual fall enrollment season in full swing – and running through December 7 – it is a good time to remind seniors that they may be eligible. The benefit is substantial – annual savings can easily total $800 on premiums and deductibles, and can be much higher for seniors with high drug spending.

Two factors determine your eligibility for Extra Help: income and assets.

Your income cannot exceed the federal poverty level guidelines. For seniors with incomes of 135 percent of the federal poverty level or lower, Medicare pays the entire annual premium, expected to average $480 next year, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation. Extra Help also covers deductibles, which typically run $310 for the year.

What’s more, Extra Help enrollees are exempt from the notorious donut hole – the coverage gap that next year will begin when combined spending by patients and insurers hit $2,850, and ends when spending reaches $4,550.

Enrollees are responsible only for a small co-pay for drugs that are covered under the plan – the cost is $2.55 for generic drugs, and $6.35 for brand-name medications.

Seniors with incomes ranging from 135 percent to 150 percent of the federal poverty level get a partial subsidy of premiums and deductibles on a sliding scale, and are responsible for somewhat higher co-pays.
